The stated goal of owners Massimiliano Leonardi and Jenifer Howard Forneris, is to create a high-standard guesthouse experience for special people. Guests are encouraged to feel as though they are staying in the private home of a friend. Accordingly, prices are very reasonable, personable housekeepers replace the traditional porters and reception, and each room is decorated in an individual style – some are quite unique indeed! The original elements of the house are classic and exquisite. Most decorative elements are, in contrast, entirely new additions and indeed reflect the whims of the owners, resulting in an individual and often eclectic feel. The success of such a distinctive interior project will depend on the taste of the guest and the room chosen, but the overall appeal to travellers seeking an individualised experience must be applauded. Continuing with the non-hotel concept, breakfast can be taken only in the bedroom: cute, but not always comfortable if your room does not feature a table – happily one is not short on dining options nearby. Another highlight is the neighbouring Officina Profumo di Santa Maria Novella, a marvel in itself which guests may sample in-house via the divine, heady aromas wafting around the entry and halls of the guesthouse. Casa Howard is dog- and child-friendly, and offers a Turkish Hammam Bath.
